As I step into the role of HOPA Board President, I find myself reflecting not just on time – but on the moments, the people, and the connections that shape us along the way.

Because when I look back on my journey, it’s clear that none of this happens alone. It is built through mentorship, community, and the willingness to evolve when the path ahead isn’t always clear.

And that is what makes HOPA so special.

Before looking ahead, I want to express my sincere gratitude to HOPA’s Immediate Past President, Robert Mancini, PharmD, BCOP, FHOPA, for his leadership and for the momentum he has created. During his presidency, Robert advanced meaningful initiatives, including the launch of the first-ever Oncology Pharmacist Day and a global collection of oncology pharmacist stories – efforts that reflect both the strength and the heart of this profession.

I am also deeply grateful to the HOPA Board of Directors – past and present. It is a privilege to serve alongside such thoughtful, dedicated leaders who continue to move our organization forward.

We all measure time differently. In our profession, it may be defined by training, new roles, or the patients and colleagues who shape our purpose. At HOPA, we often mark time by our shared experiences.

This spring, we gathered in New Orleans for a record-setting Annual Conference – an energizing reminder of the strength of this community, the depth of our expertise, and the impact we have together. It was also a meaningful opportunity to reconnect – with mentors, colleagues, and friends – and to reflect on how far we’ve come.

And now, we mark another important moment: the beginning of our next chapter.

HOPA’s 2026–2031 Strategic Plan Has Begun

As I shared in my presidential address, staying golden isn’t about standing still – it’s about how we choose to move forward.

HOPA’s new Five-Year Strategic Plan reflects that forward momentum. It builds on our strong foundation while positioning us to lead with intention, adaptability, and purpose in an evolving oncology landscape.

Our work will be guided by five strategic priorities:

  • Education: Expanding innovative, accessible learning for every stage of the professional journey
  • Professional Practice: Strengthening the workforce and supporting sustainable, meaningful careers
  • Research: Advancing pharmacist-led research that transforms patient care
  • Advocacy: Elevating our voice and ensuring oncology pharmacists are recognized as essential to cancer care
  • Organizational Excellence: Building a stronger, more agile organization to support our mission

Alongside this plan, our core values anchor how we show up – for our patients, for each other, and for the future of our profession:

  • Patients First
  • Integrity without Exception
  • Passion for Progress
  • Lead Boldly
  • Foster Community

These are not just statements – they are expectations. They reflect the courage to evolve and the power of connection that defines our work.

With our roadmap in place, our focus now shifts to turning strategy into meaningful, measurable progress for our members, the profession, and the patients we serve. Momentum is on our side.

In the months ahead, we will continue to invest in our community – supporting career growth and mentorship, advancing collaborative research, and strengthening connections.

As I begin this role, I am filled with gratitude – for this community, for the leaders who have come before me, and for the opportunity to help guide what comes next.

I am especially grateful to the members who make up HOPA – oncology pharmacists whose expertise and dedication continue to improve the lives of patients with cancer every day.

Thank you for stepping up to the challenge – again and again. The future of oncology pharmacy is strong – because of how we show up.

With courage. With connection.

That is how we move forward.

That is how we stay golden.
