Volunteer with HOPA
Get Involved!
HOPA is powered by engaged members who step forward to share their expertise, time, and passion. Whether you're looking to grow as a leader, expand your professional network, or give back to your field, there's a place for you at HOPA.
Volunteering is one of the most rewarding ways to experience the full value of your membership with HOPA.
When you volunteer, you will:
- Build meaningful professional relationships
- Develop leadership experience (even if not serving in an official leadership position)
- Contribute to important initiatives
- Strengthen your CV
- Shape the direction of the organization and, in turn, the field
The Volunteer Pipeline

Discover & Learn
Not ready for a year-long commitment? Task forces and short-term projects or tasks allow you to contribute your expertise on focused initiatives within defined timelines.
- Examples: Journal Club moderator/presenter, HOPA News author, virtual or in-person Hill Day representative
- Ideal for: Members looking for flexible, project-based involvement
Engage & Contribute
Our committees are where much of the organization's strategic work happens. Committee members collaborate on initiatives aligned with our strategic goals and help move projects forward throughout the year.
- Examples: All committees and subcommittees
- Ideal for: Members who want to actively contribute to specific focus areas and are looking for a longer-term volunteer commitment
Lead & Influence
Councils help streamline communication across committees and provide additional leadership opportunities. Serving on a council offers broader visibility into organizational priorities and is a valuable step for those interested in future board service.
- Examples: Committee leadership, council leadership, task force leadership
- Ideal for: Past committee leaders seeking expanded leadership experience
Govern & Shape
The Board of Directors provides strategic oversight and governance for the organization. Board service is an opportunity to shape long-term direction and ensure strong leadership for the future.
- Examples: Board President, Board Member-at-Large, Board Secretary, Board Treasurer
- Ideal for: Experienced leaders committed to strategic planning, governance excellence, and stewardship. Nominations for the Board of Directors open every fall
