Module 6: Designing and Implementing Supportive Care Plans

Type: IndividualFormat: On-demand

The goal of chemotherapy is to destroy cancer cells. Traditional chemotherapies work by killing cells that divide rapidly.

Course Description

As traditional chemo-therapies wipe out fast-growing cancer cells, they also can damage fast-growing healthy cells. Damage to healthy blood cells can lead to side effects such as fatigue or infection. Chemotherapy can also damage the cells that line mucous membranes throughout the body, including those inside the mouth, throat and stomach. This can lead to mouth sores, diarrhea or other issues with the digestive system. With better control of side effects from chemotherapy, treatment can be a smoother process for many people with cancer.

Learning Objectives

  • Explain how to prevent major adverse effects if applicable
  • Assess and select appropriate medication management strategies to mitigate the common chemotherapy adverse effects
  • Identify appropriate patient and provider resources for adverse effect management

This module includes an ACPE Pre- and Post-Test, an eLearning course, and a course evaluation. You must complete all of these module activities, in order, before claiming ACPE credits.
