This module provides pharmacists a comprehensive review of effective patient education delivery for patients in oncology care settings.


Course Description

This module highlights four pillars that are essential for a meaningful counseling module and continued monitoring, such as communication techniques, adherence assessment strategies, managing adverse events, and appropriate documentation/resources.

Learning Objectives

  • Employ effective verbal and non-verbal communication skills with multiple patient populations in different oncology practice settings
  • Recall strategies to improve patient adherence to oncology medications
  • Describe effective approaches to manage adverse events and appropriately convey this information to patients
  • Describe successful methods for identifying useful patient education resources

This module includes an ACPE Pre- and Post-Test, an eLearning course, and a course evaluation. You must complete all of these module activities, in order, before claiming ACPE credits.

Julianne Darling

Julianne Darling, PharmD, BCOP
Senior Manager of Education, NCODA University

Julianne is originally from Rock Hill, South Carolina and obtained her Doctor of Pharmacy from the University of South Carolina. She completed her PGY1 pharmacy residency at the Greenville Health System and PGY2 oncology pharmacy residency at the University of Georgia College of Pharmacy in Augusta, Georgia.  She is board certified by the Board of Pharmacy Specialties in Oncology Pharmacy.

Julianne previously worked as an outpatient oncology clinical pharmacist at Indiana University Simon Cancer Center in Indianapolis, Indiana. Her primary focus was the management of patients receiving oral chemotherapy and bridging the gap between the outpatient clinic and the specialty pharmacy.  Currently, she serves as the Senior Manager of Education for NCODA where she leads the patient education initiatives and helps develop quality educational resources for NCODA University. In her free time, she enjoys SEC football games, spending time with friends and family, and snuggling her dog, Otis.

Eve Segals

Eve Segal, PharmD, BCOP 
Clinical Oncology Pharmacist, Seattle Cancer Care Alliance and University of Washington Medical Center

Eve Segal, PharmD, BCOP is a clinical oncology pharmacist at the University of Washington Medical Center/Seattle Cancer Care Alliance in Seattle, WA. She obtained her PharmD from Massachusetts College of Pharmacy and Health Science University in Boston, MA. She completed a PGY-1 Pharmacy Practice Residency at Norwood Hospital in Norwood, MA and a PGY-2 Oncology Pharmacy Residency from St. Luke's Mountain States Tumor Institute in Boise, ID. In her current role, she is responsible for educating and monitoring patients with solid tumors on their oral and parenteral anticancer treatments. Additionally, she educates providers, pharmacy residents, and pharmacy students on established and emerging treatments for malignancy
