This module reviews calculation of anticancer medication doses, body surface area, renal function, and dosing considerations in specific populations and instances.

Learning Objectives

  • Calculate body surface area and drug doses for a patient, given a patient’s height and weight
  • Generate carboplatin dose following calculation of renal function

Kelly Gaertner Brandt is a scientific director in oncology with Clinical Care Options. She received her Doctor of Pharmacy degree from Duquesne University in Pittsburgh and completed her oncology pharmacy training at the University of Virginia Health System in Charlottesville, VA. She previously worked in the Breast Medicine clinic at Roswell Park Cancer Institute in Buffalo, NY and in medical oncology at Allegheny Health Network Cancer Institute in Pittsburgh, PA.

Jacky Olin is a Scientific Director in Oncology with Clinical Care Options. Previously, she was a Professor of Pharmacy at Wingate University School of Pharmacy and practiced as an inpatient clinical pharmacy specialist at Novant Health Presbyterian Center in Charlotte, North Carolina. She completed a PGY1 residency at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in New Jersey. Dr. Olin has over 20 years of teaching experience with pharmacy learners, nurse practitioners, physicians, and other healthcare providers. She has provided oncology education to pharmacy learners and has previously served on the Board of Pharmacy Specialties' Specialty Council for Oncology Pharmacy.
