Module 3: Monitoring and Modifying Cancer Treatment Care Plans

This module demonstrates the pharmacists’ patient care process in the development and implementation of the monitoring associated with a cancer treatment care plan.


Course Description 

These patient-specific monitoring plans integrate basic pharmacology knowledge and clinical data. Both during-treatment and post-treatment (i.e. survivorship) monitoring plans are discussed.

Learning Objectives

  • Identify the appropriate clinical laboratory and other data required to assess the effectiveness and safety of a cancer treatment care plan.
  • Formulate appropriate patient-specific monitoring plans based on evaluation of laboratory and other clinical data for initial and subsequent cancer treatments.
  • Recognize drug-related and disease-related symptoms.
  • Construct a modified cancer treatment care plan based on patient-specific laboratory and other clinical data.
  • Propose a survivorship care plan given patient-specific information.

This module includes a Pre-Test, Content, Post-Test, and Module Evaluation. You must complete all of these module activities, in order, before claiming ACPE credits.

Dr. Holle completed her Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy and post-baccalaureate Doctor of Pharmacy from the University of Wisconsin–Madison. She completed a specialized oncology residency at UT M.D. Anderson Cancer Center and is a board-certified oncology pharmacist. Dr. Holle has worked as an oncology pharmacist for more than 25 years in a variety of settings including private hospitals, academic medical centers, and medical communications. Currently, Dr. Holle is a Clinical Professor at the UConn School of Pharmacy and Professor at the UConn School of Medicine. Her practice site is at the UConn Health Carole and Ray Neag Comprehensive Cancer Center, where she works in a team-based ambulatory care clinic focusing on gastrointestinal and genitourinary cancers. Dr. Holle is a Past President of HOPA (Hematology/Oncology Pharmacy Association) and past Treasurer of the International Society of Oncology Pharmacy Practitioners. Dr. Holle’s clinical research program focuses on numeracy and patient decision-making, oncology quality improvement initiatives, medical marijuana, and oral anticancer medication management.
