Module 2: Evaluation of Chemotherapy Orders and Initial Patient Assessment
This module provides hematology/oncology pharmacists with comprehensive guidance on verifying an entire chemotherapy order.
The module begins with an overview of existing standards on best practices for safe use of chemotherapy and biologic agents and is followed by a discussion on key pieces to extract while reviewing patient charts.Critical components of a chemotherapy order are also discussed at length. Arpita S. Gandhi PharmD, BCOP also reviews tertiary resources to quickly validate chemotherapy regimens, appropriate use of anti-emetics and other pre-medications, reviewing necessary pre-chemotherapy labs, sequence of chemotherapy administration, appropriate use of growth factors and appropriate prescribing of home medications. Upon completion of this module, participants will be able to quickly navigate through a chemotherapy order and validate the regimen in addition to related supportive care orders seamlessly.

Arpita Shah Gandhi received her Doctor of Pharmacy degree from the Rutgers University Ernest Mario School of Pharmacy in 2011. She then completed a PGY1 Pharmacy Residency and a Hematology/Oncology Specialty Residency (PGY2) at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania (UPenn). She completed a teaching certificate during her PGY2 year at Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania/Philadelphia College of Pharmacy. Arpita served as the Hematology/Oncology Clinical Pharmacy Specialist at Augusta University Medical Center until November 2018. She then joined Emory Healthcare as the Hematology/Oncology Clinical pharmacy specialist and serves as the clinical specialist for the Cerner Oncology Computer Physician Order Entry (CPOE) team. She is an active member of Hematology Oncology Pharmacy Association (HOPA) and American Society of Blood and Marrow Transplantation. Arpita’s teaching, clinical service, and scholarship interests include hematological malignancies, bone marrow transplantation, and supportive care in oncology.
