BCOP Updates 2026: Outpatient Administration of Desensitization Protocols, High-Dose Methotrexate, and Other Complex Therapies
There has been a major shift in recent years to administer chemotherapy regimens in the outpatient setting that have classically been considered inpatient regimens. With mounting financial pressures and increased monitoring capabilities, many regimens have been proven to be safely administered outpatient. Desensitization protocols for anticancer medications are now frequently performed in outpatient settings safely and allow eligible patients an increase in quality of life as they avoid yet another admission during their chemotherapy treatment. Many other complex regimens fall into the same category, such as HyperCVAD, R-ICE, High-Dose Methotrexate, and more that are increasingly being performed as standard of care in the outpatient setting. This presentation aims to highlight current literature for outpatient administration of complex therapies, as well as real world tips for implementation in large and small cancer centers. It will identify key stakeholders to be involved in decision making and identify strategies to create a streamlined workflow for everyone involved.
