Hill Day 2026: Making HOPA's Voice Heard

HOPA's 2026 In-Person Hill Day will take place on Wednesday, September 16!

This event will allow advocates a unique opportunity to engage with their members of Congress. Throughout the day, advocates will speak to their elected officials and their staff to discuss issues important to hematology/oncology pharmacists and their patients.

There are members of Congress who need to hear from YOU - their constituents - about the great work that hematology/oncology pharmacy practitioners do and how they help those on their cancer treatment journey.

  • You are a hematology/oncology pharmacy practitioner and HOPA member
  • You are a cancer patient/survivor or caregiver who has experience working with hematology/oncology pharmacists

Prior to meetings, attendees will receive:

  • Trainings from HOPA staff on how to advocate and what issues to discuss in the meetings

Recruiting Pharmacy Residents

HOPA values advocacy as a key component of professional development and is committed to supporting pharmacy residents as they begin their careers working with patients and caregivers. To encourage this, we aim to have at least one PGY1 or PGY2 resident attend each Hill Day meeting to gain firsthand experience advocating for both patients and the profession.

Interested, or know someone who might be?

Recruiting Patient Advocates

HOPA is committed to incorporating the patient and caregiver voice in our advocacy efforts. As part of that commitment, our goal is to have at least one patient or caregiver on every Hill Day team.

We need YOUR help recruiting patients and caregivers to participate!

If you know any cancer patients/survivors or caregivers who may be interested in participating in this event, please forward them this registration form.

Virtual Hill Day 2026 Recap

On Thursday, May 21, HOPA brought your key issues and concerns to the attention of lawmakers on Capitol Hill with Virtual Hill Day.

On Virtual Hill Day 2026, HOPA members along with cancer patients, survivors, and caregivers met with the offices of their elected officials to advocate on issues important to the practice of hematology/oncology pharmacy and individuals undergoing cancer treatment. Over the course of dozens of meetings, Hill Day participants discussed several key issues including:

  • The Safe Step Act, which would implement commonsense guardrails for step therapy protocols
  • Biomedical research
  • Drug shortages
  • New legislative initiatives for clinical pharmacists

With 67 total HOPA participants attending more than 75 meetings across 29 states, HOPA made sure your voice and the voice of all those impacted by cancer were heard on Capitol Hill.

And the work is far from finished!

Scenes from HOPA Hill Day 2025

On Sept. 30, 2025, HOPA members - including several patients, survivors, and caregivers - from across the country ventured to the nation's capital to partake in HOPA Hill Day. There, they met face-to-face with elected officials and their staffers to discuss optimized cancer care along with the critical concerns facing pharmacists and cancer treatment patients today.

Here are some images from past HOPA Hill Day trips to Washington, D.C. and the proud participants who made it possible:
