HOPA Hill Day

Hill Day 2025: Making HOPA's Voice Heard
HOPA's 2025 in-person Hill Day will head to Washington D.C. on Tuesday, September 30!
This event will allow advocates a unique opportunity to engage with their members of Congress. Throughout the day, advocates will speak to their elected officials and their staff to discuss issues important to hematology/oncology pharmacists and their patients.
There are members of Congress who need to hear from YOU - their constituents - about the great work that hematology/oncology practitioners do and how they help those on their cancer treatment journey.
Click here to apply by July 9!
You should apply if:
- You are a hematology/oncology pharmacy practitioner
- You are a cancer patient/survivor or caregiver who has experience working with hematology/oncology pharmacists
- You can comment on the role hematology/oncology pharmacists play in cancer care
You do NOT need prior experience advocating on Capitol Hill to participate in this event! HOPA's Policy & Advocacy team will teach you everything you need to know to prepare you for your meetings. You will also be paired with at least one other HOPA member who has experience advocating during HOPA Hill Days.
Prior to meetings, attendees will receive:
- Trainings from HOPA staff on how to advocate and what issues to discuss in the meetings
- Talking points to assist in conversations during meetings
- Leave-behind materials, to continue the conversations with staff after meetings conclude

Recruiting Patient Advocates
HOPA is committed to incorporating the patient and caregiver voice in our advocacy efforts. As part of that commitment, our goal is to have at least one patient or caregiver on every Hill Day team.
If you know any cancer patients/survivors or caregivers who may be interested in participating in this event, please forward them the registration form.
Recruiting Pharmacy Residents
HOPA values advocacy as a key component of professional development and is committed to supporting pharmacy residents as they begin their careers working with patients and caregivers. To encourage this, we aim to have at least one PGY2 resident attend each Hill Day meeting to gain first-hand experience advocating for both patients and the profession.

Virtual Hill Day 2025 Recap
On Tuesday, May 6, HOPA brought your key issues and concerns to the attention of lawmakers on Capitol Hill with Virtual Hill Day.
On Virtual Hill Day 2025, HOPA members along with cancer patients, survivors, and caregivers met with the offices of their elected officials to advocate on issues important to the practice of hematology/oncology pharmacy and individuals undergoing cancer treatment. Over the course of dozens of meetings, Hill Day participants discussed several key issues including:
- Advocating for the vital role of a hematology/oncology pharmacist plays on a cancer care team
- Looking for and supporting solutions to cancer drug shortages
- Providing and maintaining funding for federal cancer prevention, surveillance, and research programs, to guarantee that the United States continues to drive innovation and lead the fight against cancer, and ensure that all Americans have the support and resources they need to battle this disease. That includes maintaining crucial funding for cancer prevention and research programs - including for the NIH, NCI, CDC, FDA, and more.
With 56 total HOPA participants attending 68 meetings across 29 states, HOPA made sure your voice and the voice of all those impacted by cancer were heard on Capitol Hill.

Scenes from HOPA Hill Day 2024
On Sept. 25, 2024, HOPA members - including several patients, survivors, and caregivers - from across the country ventured to the nation's capital to partake in HOPA Hill Day. There, they met face-to-face with elected officials and their staffers to discuss optimized cancer care along with the critical concerns facing pharmacists and cancer treatment patients today.
