HOPA Annual Conference – the Hematology/Oncology Pharmacy Association’s yearly four-day gathering dedicated to education, community, industry, and networking – is always a celebration. HOPA’s 21st edition of Annual Conference, hosted April 9-12, 2025, at the Oregon Convention Center in Portland, Oregon, was particularly a cause for celebration, breaking the association’s previous attendance record and setting a new standard for the association’s signature event.

HOPA Annual Conference 2025 (HOPA 2025) drew 1,702 registrants to Portland this spring, surpassing its previous record of 1,607 registrants for Annual Conference 2023 in Phoenix, Arizona. The record-breaking registrant total reflected a significant national and global reach, with oncology pharmacy professionals from all 50 U.S. states and five countries, including Canada and the Netherlands, in attendance.

Inside the conference, attendees found programming filled with 32 education sessions offering up to 37 continuing education (CE) credits and 8 BCOP credits as well as more than 300 research posters – including 82 encore posters presented by HOPA’s Industry Relations Council (IRC) members. In the Exhibit Hall, attendees could visit 60 booths from 55 exhibiting companies.

The event also showcased a number of engaging presentations and speakers – headlined by the John G. Kuhn Keynote Address, “Without Borders: The Global Face of Cancer,” powerfully delivered by Global Focus on Cancer Founder and Executive Director Carolyn Taylor.

The event was made possible by 11 generous sponsors and 27 sponsored symposia.

The conference made the most of its host city. During wellness breaks and evening networking events, HOPA 2025 attendees could enjoy the local scene, courtesy of Portland food trucks and wineries, music from “The City of Roses,” and two particularly special guests: Therapy llamas Beni and Panda.

As with every year, though, the true highlight of Annual Conference was celebrating our accomplished HOPA members. During the event, 11 oncology pharmacists earned distinguished honorary annual awards from the association, nominated by their fellow members. Six additional HOPA members also earned the prestigious, career-defining designation of Fellow of Hematology/Oncology Pharmacy (FHOPA). During Annual Conference, HOPA leaders are also recognized for their contributions. With that, HOPA would like to give a deeply felt thank you to past president Jolynn Sessions, PharmD, BCOP, CCP, FHOPA and outgoing board members Shannon Hough, PharmD, BCOP; LeAnne Kennedy, PharmD, BCOP, CPP, FHOPA; and Amy Seung, PharmD, BCOP, CHCP, FHOPA.

Robert Mancini, PharmD, BCOP, FHOPA, delivered his Incoming Presidents’ Address and welcomed to the board newly elected Treasurer Philip Schwieterman, PharmD, MHA and Board Member At-Large Katie Gatwood, PharmD, BCOP. Both Sessions and Seung remain on the HOPA board, with Sessions serving one last year as past president and Seung assuming her new role as president-elect.

Off the success of Annual Conference 2025, planning has already begun for HOPA’s 22nd annual celebration, which will take place in New Orleans, Louisiana on March 25-28, 2026.
