When you look back over the 365 days of 2025, our members, advocates, and entire hematology/oncology pharmacy community achieved so much. As we recently turned the page on a new year, let’s reflect on just a handful of the accomplishments and memorable moments that made this association proud in 2025 and will continue to fuel our work in 2026.

A Record-Breaking HOPA Annual Conference

The theme of HOPA Annual Conference, hosted April 9-12, 2025, in Portland, Oregon, was “Together We Can Reach New Heights.” And that’s exactly what it did, as the 2025 edition set a new attendance record with 1,702 registrants, including oncology pharmacy professionals ranging from all 50 U.S. states and five countries. There, attendees took in 32 education sessions offering up to 37 CE credits and 8 BCOP credits, as well as more than 300 research posters, 60 Exhibit Hall booths from 55 companies, and several presentations and speakers – all made possible by 11 generous sponsors and 27 sponsored symposia.

Numbers, however, can only tell part of the story of 2025’s record-setting HOPA Annual Conference. What can’t be counted or tallied is the sense of community and educational enthusiasm found this past April in and around the Oregon Convention Center. Across the four days, attendees formed networking connections, celebrated their individual and collective achievements, furthered their professional careers and medical knowledge, and set an inspiring path for HOPA’s present and future.

Making Our Voice Heard at HOPA Hill Day

Fall of 2025 brought an extraordinary in-person HOPA Hill Day – and not just because our members and advocates arrived in Washington, D.C. amid the shadow of an impending government shutdown.

A record-breaking number of participants – 45 total advocates, ranging from pharmacists to cancer survivors – came out to the nation’s capital on Tuesday, Sept. 30, to bring your concerns and your support to both the U.S. Senate and House of Representatives. Across more than 65 meetings with elected officials’ offices, HOPA advocates pushed forward several critical issues such as drug shortages, the Clinical Trial Modernization Act, federal funding for cancer research, and more.

Hill Day’s in-person efforts – combined with the virtually-hosted edition, which gathered more than 50 HOPA participants for 68 meetings with lawmakers on May 6, 2025 – made sure hem/onc pharmacy’s voice was heard on the hill, and will continue to do so in 2026. Speaking Out with Our Colleagues

While Hill Day is a critical component, HOPA’s advocacy does not begin and end on those two days. Over the course of 2025, HOPA collaborated with several fellow medical associations, health organizations, and advocacy and awareness groups to release statements and speak out on critical current healthcare issues – including voicing support for federal funding for cancer research and programs, vaccine trust, and more. Continuing Important Work with Time to Talk: Clinical Trials

While Time to Talk: Clinical Trials debuted in late 2024, HOPA continued to expand and grow the awareness campaign throughout 2025. With the Visionary Support of Regeneron and the dedication of several HOPA members and volunteers, Time to Talk: Clinical Trials was able to add even more resources across multiple mediums and languages to its platform, all aimed at educating patients, caregivers, and beyond about the evolution of cancer clinical trials, the latest advancements in cancer treatments, and how they can help more people and communities than ever before.

Doing the Research

In 2025, Research & Quality continued to live up to its role as a pillar of HOPA’s current Strategic Plan.

For instance, HOPA, in partnership with the Hematology/Oncology Practice and Research Network (PRN) of the American College of Clinical Pharmacy (ACCP), published the first comprehensive consensus statements on the average time for a U.S.-based oncology pharmacist to complete common care-related tasks. The process and resulting consensus statements were published in the Journal of Oncology Pharmacy Practice in April 2025.

That article is just one of several published this year by HOPA members. Even more articles and research can be found at this webpage, featuring a collection of published papers submitted to HOPA by members.

Telling Our Stories, Big and Small, with the New HOPA Now Podcast

Who better to tell the ongoing story of HOPA and hem/onc pharmacy than actual HOPA members and hem/onc pharmacists? That’s the idea behind the re-launched HOPA Now Podcast.

Across a dozen episodes released in its first year, the HOPA Now Podcast highlighted down-to-earth discussion about the world of hem/onc pharmacy both professional and personal. The conversations have ranged from heavy-duty developments in the worlds of psychedelic therapies and classical hematology to light-hearted chat about balancing parenthood and our livelihood. The episodes tackled topics as big as climate change and as intimate as one person’s story of surviving cancer as an oncology pharmacist. Our guests took us to cancer deserts in the Midwest and as far as Hawaii, Guam, and Alaska. The one linking factor? Our guests’ unique and thoughtful perspectives and stories.

It's been an honor and a thrill to share these stories with our HOPA Now listeners – and we can’t wait to share even more in the upcoming year, including in person with a live recording at HOPA 2026!

These are just a few of HOPA’s notable achievements and events from the past year. If we tried to list all of the moments, accomplishments, and stories that made us proud, we might run out of internet. And we know there are even more out there, those small stories of daily hope and inspiration – the seemingly tiny medical breakthrough that may help lead to the huge medical breakthrough, the short conversation that brings understanding and optimism to an overwhelmed patient or colleague, the discovery of a new friendship amongst strangers at a networking event - that may only take a minute but ripple meaningfully throughout our entire lives.

In unusual times, HOPA members and supporters have responded with your usual drive and dedication (and then some) in 2025. We’re amazed at what we’ve done this year – and we can’t wait to see what we’ll do next.
