Module 2: Evaluation of Chemotherapy Orders and Initial Patient Assessment

Type: IndividualFormat: On-demand

Course Description

This module provides hematology/oncology pharmacists with comprehensive guidance on verifying an entire chemotherapy order. The module begins with an overview of existing standards on best practices for safe use of chemotherapy and biologic agents and is followed by a discussion on key pieces to extract while reviewing patient charts. Critical components of a chemotherapy order are also discussed at length.

Arpita S. Gandhi, PharmD, BCOP, also reviews tertiary resources to rapidly validate chemotherapy regimens, assess the use of antiemetics and other pre-medications, verify required pre-chemotherapy labs, confirm the sequence of chemotherapy administration, and ensure appropriate use of growth factors and home medications.

Upon completion of this module, participants will be able to quickly navigate through a chemotherapy order and seamlessly validate the regimen along with the associated supportive care orders.
