The Board of Pharmacy Specialties (BPS) is seeking panelists to help set the standard for the specialty certification in Pain Management Pharmacy (BCPMP) examination.

Standard setting is the process by which the passing standard - or cut score - for the exam is set.

Applicants selected by BPS will participate in one 7-hour web conference meeting on Tuesday, November 4, 2025, at 11 a.m., EDT. The meeting will include a review exercise with a representative form of the BCPMP examination along with a panel of approximately 15 other standard setting judges.

Applicants will need access to a computer or tablet to participate in the panel. They will also be required to sign a confidentiality agreement maintaining the secrecy of all materials and meeting proceedings. No other preparation is needed, as the materials and training will be provided at the meeting.

Restrictions and Considerations

  • Individuals who registered for the BCPMP examination are not eligible to participate in the standard setting process.
  • Individuals intending to take the BPS certification or recertification examination within the next 2 years are NOT advised to participate. Applicants chosen for the panel will be ineligible to take the corresponding BPS certification or recertification exam for 2 years following the standard setting study. Those due for recertification during this period may still fulfill recertification requirements through the CPE pathway.
  • Individuals chosen by BPS for the panel will be prohibited from teaching or developing review/recertification courses or materials for 2 years following their participation in the standard setting study.
