HOPA's Leadership Development Committee connected with HOPA's founding leaders to learn more about the creation of HOPA, their career journey's, and how they overcame setbacks.

Chris Fausel PharmD, MHA, BCOP

Chris Fausel, PharmD, MHA, BCOP is the Director of Pharmacy, Precision Genomics at Indiana University Health. Chris is a founding board member of the Hematology/Oncology Pharmacy Association and has served in various leadership positions.


What was the motivation behind creating the HOPA organization?

CF: There was no pharmacy professional society or venue to advocacy in what we were trying to do to share ideas or assist in professional growth.

How would you describe your leadership style?

CF: Modeling for others and being consistent.

What are three traits that are critical to being a successful leader?

CF: Being able to set goals, execute them, and demonstrate value.

Who were the people that influenced you most in your leadership journey?

CF: Lawrence H. Einhorn has inspired me through his greatness in curing thousands of patients. He makes me self reflect and ask, “what can I do?”.

What can HOPA do to develop future leaders both in our profession and in the organization?

CF: Continue to work in advocating for standards in practice and develop young practitioners.

What do you wish someone would have told you as an aspiring leader?

CF: Never let anything stand in your way. Opportunities will come!

What is something you hope people remember about you?

CF: That I was committed to doing the best for patient care and that I kept doing the best to help the next person.
