The International Society of Oncology Pharmacy Practitioners (ISOPP) and The Union for International Cancer Control (UICC) recently released a statement calling for quality and equity in cancer treatment.
The statement is in reaction to alarming findings reported in The Lancet Global Health in July of 2025: Approximately one in six anticancer medication samples collected from public hospitals and private pharmacies across multiple countries in sub-Saharan Africa failed to meet international pharmaceutical standards.
HOPA joins oncology and pharmacy organizations worldwide to endorse ISOPP and UICC's call for urgent, collective action. Governments should provide financial and technical support while oncology pharmacists, civil society, and patient advocacy groups raise awareness of this issue.
