Improving Access Through Oncology Drug Repository Programs

This session explores four drug repository programs and sheds light on how oncology pharmacists can contribute to the growth and impact of repository programs in your practice and communities.

Oncology drug repository programs play a vital role in expanding patient access to lifesaving therapies while reducing waste and cost. In this Critical Conversation -originally hosted on October 6, 2025 - webinar guests provide an overview of how programs operate in various settings, highlight lessons learned from four distinct models, and share ways to address common challenges.

Ryan is Senior Pharmacist, Hematology/Oncology UC Davis Comprehensive Cancer Center and Assistant Professor, UC Davis School of Medicine and Assistant Professor, UCSF School of Pharmacy.

Ryan is a member of the HOPA External Affairs Committee and looks forward to moderating this session to help guide discussions and explore how oncology drug repository programs could improve access for patients in Northern California and beyond.

Siobhan Norman, CEO and Founder, YesRx

Siobhan is a collaborative leader building relationships and working in diverse teams to collectively achieve meaningful goals. She has spent her career in healthcare creating well-informed, innovative strategies to provide patient-first solutions that bridge gaps and form healthcare partnerships to optimize care experiences.

Together with co-founders Emily Mackler and Farah Jalloul she has created YesRx, a 501(c)(3) organization and the YesRx Statewide Cancer Drug Repository Network to serve the urgent need to improve equitable patient access to oral cancer medication and decrease the harmful impact of medication waste on our environment.

YesRx is a 501(c)(3) Michigan-based charitable service organization improving access to cancer medication and eliminating cancer medication waste via the first statewide cancer drug repository network serving thousands of patients each year. YesRx supports cancer care teams in Michigan with timely access to oral cancer medication and supportive cancer medication to provide to their patients, for free. YesRx helps individuals across the U.S. donate unused cancer medication to patients in need.

Jon-Michael Rosmann, CEO, SafeNetRx

Jon-Michael is the CEO of SafeNetRx, a non-profit focused on the development of a national drug donation system. SafeNetRx is a pioneer in the charitable medication space, leading the nation’s first multi-state drug repository in partnership with the state health departments in Iowa and Nebraska. SafeNetRx created the first statewide drug repository in 2007 and Iowa’s first statewide charitable pharmacy in 2016. SafeNetRx also developed the nation’s first justice-based pharmacy model to reduce recidivism through free medication access.

A former VP and CFO at State Public Policy Group, Jon brings a strong background in public policy and management to the non-profit sector. He is a founding member and Chair of Charitable Pharmacies of America, a national organization supporting charitable pharmacies, a Presidential Leadership Scholar, and serves on the boards of the Iowa Rural Health Association and Primary Healthcare, Inc., the Federally Qualified Health Center serving central Iowa. His leadership on these boards and his dedication to conservation underscore his commitment to improving the well-being of underserved communities across the nation.

SafeNetRx is an Iowa-based 501(c)3 established in 2001 as a transparent partnership between the public and non-profit sectors to provide affordable medication access to patients in need. This partnership led to innovations in drug donation, charitable pharmacy, and the care for populations with unique pharmacy needs. SafeNetRx operates the nation’s first multi-state drug repository where state Health Departments in Iowa and Nebraska have joined forces to make donated medicine available statewide at no cost. Our vision is to be the national leader in the collection, inspection, and distribution of donated medicines. In our journey to make this vision and reality, SafeNetRx has redirected over $155,000,000 (AWP) in donated medicine, supplying over 160,000 patients with needed medicine at no cost.

George Wang, PhD, Co-founder, SIRUM

George is co-founder of SIRUM, where he leads SIRUM’s work to save medicine. At SIRUM, George has built strong partnerships with major medicine donors including hospitals, pharmacies, manufacturers, and nursing homes while informing and shaping medicine donation laws. Before co-founding SIRUM, he pursued academic research, co-authored nine publications, and discovered a gene for neural plasticity - earning a Ph.D. from Stanford University and graduating Phi Beta Kappa from Ohio State.

SIRUM is a nonprofit expanding healthcare access for families in need. They leverage the $11B of surplus medicine that is wasted every year to create access for patients whose prescription costs are too high. Since 2013, SIRUM has worked with more than 350 donor organizations to redistribute $300M+ worth of prescription medications. SIRUM has now built a program for oncology medicine donation, with the goal of making sure no cancer medicine is wasted, and every life-saving dose gets donated to a patient in need. They are doing this by partnering with cancer centers, clinics, oncology pharmacists, and more to help their patients donate their surplus medicine.
