Behind every program, guideline, and member benefit is a dedicated staff team working year-round to support excellence in hematology/oncology pharmacy practice. While our work is often most visible through education, advocacy, and resources, I want to take a moment to spotlight the people who make it all happen.

Our team brings a depth of nonprofit experience that reflects both stability and fresh perspective. Across the organization, the staff range from early-career professionals to those with more than 25 years of experience in nonprofit leadership – ensuring our work benefits from both new perspectives and deep experiences in serving our members.

Expertise that strengthens our work

Our staff hold advanced degrees spanning healthcare administration, public health, nonprofit management, education, social work, biology, and pharmacy. Several team members also maintain professional certifications such as Certified Association Executive and Certified Pharmacy Technician.

This range of expertise directly supports the rigor and credibility of our educational programs, governance processes, and strategic initiatives – ensuring that what we offer members is grounded in both best practices and real-world applications.

Leadership beyond HOPA

Many staff extend their commitment to service beyond their roles with HOPA through volunteer leadership, board service, mentorship, and community engagement. From reviewing scholarships and coaching youth programs to serving on nonprofit boards, advancing equity initiatives, and supporting patient-centered causes, our team remains deeply connected to the communities we live in.

Professionally, staff are also engaged with organizations such as the Wisconsin Society of Association Executives and the American Society of Association Executives, contributing to leadership development and strengthening the broader nonprofit sector.

This external engagement helps us stay connected to emerging ideas and apply best practices within HOPA.

What drives this work

For many on our team, this mission is personal.

Whether shaped by family experiences with cancer, a commitment to supporting healthcare teams, or a passion for strengthening mission-driven organizations behind the scenes, staff are motivated by a shared purpose: supporting the professionals who care for patients during some of life’s most vulnerable moments.

As one team member shared:

“I’m part of a larger mission that advances knowledge, improves practice, and supports professionals caring for patients during some of life’s most vulnerable moments.”

Another reflected:

“After losing my mother to ovarian cancer, this work became deeply personal. I’m inspired by the life-changing role oncology pharmacists play and am proud to support a future where every cancer patient has a pharmacist as part of their care team.”

How staff expertise supports members

The impact of staff work is often invisible – but essential.

Behind the scenes, the team:

  • Maintains accreditation standards that ensure educational excellence
  • Supports governance and strategic leadership
  • Oversees educational programming, including BCOP and ACPE initiatives
  • Maintains HOPA Learn and supports credit claiming
  • Coordinates meetings, events, and collaborative partnerships
  • Advances research and policy awareness
  • Manages communications, branding, and public relations
  • Strengthens member engagement and experience
  • Ensures legal, operational, and organizational integrity

Together, these efforts enable HOPA to deliver high-quality education, trusted resources, and a strong collective voice for the profession.

Collectively, our staff bring decades of nonprofit and healthcare experience to this work, paired with a deep respect for the expertise of our members. We’re grateful for the opportunity to support your professional growth and patient care – and we’re excited to continue building what comes next, together.
