Sara S. Kim, BS, PharmD, BCOP, FHOPA, is Pharmacy Director for Oncology Clinical Services for Ambulatory Cancer Centers at the Northwell Health Cancer Institute in New York, and an Assistant Professor of Medicine at Hofstra/Northwell. She has been practicing as a pharmacist for nearly 30 years, with 25 years dedicated to the field of oncology. Currently, she directs and oversees the clinical pharmacy program at the seven ambulatory cancer centers at Northwell Health Cancer Institute.
Prior to joining Northwell, Dr. Kim spent 15 years at the Mount Sinai Hospital in New York as an Oncology Clinical Pharmacy Specialist, focusing on Blood and Marrow Transplant and Leukemia.
Dr. Kim was diagnosed with presumed cholangiocarcinoma between 2021 and 2022, and subsequently underwent major open abdominal surgery for bile duct resection and reconstruction of her digestive system. Following the surgery, to everyone’s surprise, the extensive biopsy results came back negative for cancer, and the follow-up imaging no longer revealed any tumors in the liver. Although her experience as a cancer patient was relatively brief, it profoundly shaped her perspective. Dr. Kim has since become an advocate for improved cancer care, striving to be the voice of cancer patients and using her personal experience to drive meaningful changes.
