Help Make HOPA's Voice Heard on Virtual Hill Day 2026!

HOPA's Virtual Hill Day will take place on Thursday, May 21!

Virtual Hill Day allows advocates a unique opportunity to engage with their members of Congress, especially for those who are not usually able to travel to Washington D.C. Throughout the day, advocates will speak to their elected officials and their legislative staffers to discuss issues important to hematology/oncology pharmacists and their patients.

Whether you are a HOPA member, cancer patient/survivor, or caregiver, apply by Tuesday, April 14! And together we will optimize the care of individuals affected by cancer!

There are members of Congress who need to hear from YOU - their constituents - about the great work that hematology/oncology pharmacy practitioners do and how they help those on their cancer treatment journey.

All expertise levels welcome!

You do not need prior advocacy experience or have an in-depth understanding of government processes to participate.

HOPA's Policy & Advocacy team will teach you everything you need to know to prepare you for your meetings. You will also be paired with at least one other HOPA member who has experience advocating during HOPA's Hill Days.

Prior to meetings, attendees will receive:

  • Trainings from HOPA staff on how to advocate and what issues to discuss in the meetings
  • Talking points to assist in conversations during meetings
  • Leave-behind materials, to continue the conversations with staff after meetings conclude

A Special Call to Our Resident Members

Don't miss out on this rare experience!

HOPA is committed to supporting the professional development of incoming practitioners, and we are pleased to offer this hands-on experience to our Resident Members.

If that member is you (or a member you know), we encourage taking the next step and apply as a resident participant!

Virtual Hill Day duties will include:

  • Notetaking
  • Recording questions or comments for HOPA's Advocacy Team to follow up with the assigned office

Recruiting Patient Advocates

HOPA is committed to incorporating the patient voice in our advocacy efforts. As part of that commitment, our goal is to have at least one patient/caregiver on every Hill Day team. We need YOUR help recruiting patients to participate!

HOPA Hill Day 2025: HOPA Goes to Washington

The annual in-person advocacy event brought advocates to the U.S. Capitol for a unique opportunity to engage with their members of Congress, speaking with their elected officials and their staff about pressing issues for hematology/oncology pharmacists and their patients. Last year's edition discussed several important topics in the Capitol, including:

  • Supporting solutions to cancer drug shortages
  • Supporting and cosponsoring the Clinical Trial Modernization Act, a House Bill introduced in May 2025 aiming to improve participation in clinical trials by underrepresented populations
  • Providing and maintaining federal funding for cancer research, prevention, and surveillance programs

In total, Hill Day 2025 brought together 45 proud HOPA advocates - including pharmacists, caregivers, and residents - for 68 productive meetings with representatives and staffers, making last year's in-person gathering one of the largest Hill Days in HOPA's history. Thank you to all of the incredible volunteers and advocates who made this event possible and who made sure our pharmacists and patients were heard on the hill!
