Fellow of Hematology/Oncology Pharmacy (FHOPA) Program
A Fellow of the Hematology/Oncology Pharmacy Association (FHOPA) designation recognizes individuals who have made sustained contributions to HOPA and who have also demonstrated exceptional performance in oncology pharmacy.
Each new class of Fellows is announced at the Annual Conference.
Requirements for Consideration
Candidates for FHOPA status must be an active member of HOPA for a minimum of 10 years and must be employed for at least 10 years in an oncology related position (10 year HOPA membership may include 1 year of PGY2, excluding associate and student memberships). Additional eligibility requirements are detailed in the candidate application and include:
- Sustained contributions to HOPA
- Sustained practice contributions to the field of hematology/oncology pharmacy
- Contributions to original research
- Participation in volunteer service and/or philanthropic activities
- Nomination by two full HOPA members
Selection Process
The HOPA Recognition Committee performs a comprehensive evaluation of service to HOPA as well as practice and research accomplishments of each candidate based on information submitted in the application.
All recommended Fellows are submitted to the HOPA Board of Directors for final approval.

Awards and Recognition Program
The Awards and Recognition application deadlines have been extended to October 30, 2020.
The HOPA Member Awards program is an opportunity for members to recognize their HOPA colleagues who have shown outstanding achievement in their field. Awards are presented at the Annual Members’ Meeting and Awards Presentation held each year at the HOPA Annual Conference. With the exception of the technician award, all nominees and nominators must be HOPA members.
Literature Awards
Basic Science and Clinical Research Literature Award
The HOPA Basic Science and Clinical Research Literature Award recognizes a scientific article describing hematology/oncology basic science and/or translational research or clinical trials evaluating drug efficacy and/or safety published by a HOPA member between October 2019 and September 2020. Examples of eligible articles include: basic research studies (ie, cellular, genetic, or animal studies), clinical trials, or pharmacokinetic or pharmacodynamic studies.

Oncology Pharmacy Practice Literature Award
The HOPA Oncology Pharmacy Practice Literature Award recognizes an article, other than scientific research, that contributes to the betterment of the hematology/oncology pharmacy profession and describes innovations in community, hospital, or healthcare system hematology/oncology pharmacy practices published by a HOPA member between October 2019 and September 2020. Articles should describe any aspect of professional practice including: administrative, managerial, technological, pharmacoeconomics, new practice models, clinical services, or drug use control.

Past Pharmacy Practice Literature Award winners
To be eligible for a HOPA literature award, both the nominator and nominees must be HOPA members in good standing. The nominee must be primary, lead, or senior author and only that author may be recognized with a plaque and monetary award. Self-nominations are accepted for literature awards.
HOPA Patient Advocacy Award
The HOPA Patient Advocacy Award recognizes a HOPA member who demonstrates leadership and collaboration while advocating for outstanding patient care. Areas for advocacy may include
- improved patient resources
- access to care
- education or service in legislative, organizational, or community setting

Award of Excellence
The HOPA Award of Excellence recognizes a HOPA member who has made a significant, sustained contribution to or provided excellent leadership in developing or supporting hematology/oncology pharmacy.

The HOPA New Practitioner Award recognizes a HOPA member early in their career who has made a significant contribution to developing or supporting clinical hematology/oncology pharmacy services. Hematology/Oncology Technician Award
The HOPA Hematology/Oncology Technician Award recognizes a HOPA technician member who demonstrates excellence in his/her work and a commitment to hematology/oncology pharmacy practice in an organized healthcare setting. HOPA membership is NOT required.

HOPA Volunteer Award
The HOPA Volunteer Award recognizes the time, talent and energy of a HOPA member who contributes significant volunteer service to the organization through committee and/or task force contributions and representing HOPA at external events.

Leadership Award
The new HOPA Leadership Award recognizes pharmacy practitioners who have distinguished themselves by demonstrating superior leadership skills when challenged by a specific opportunity, for their institution, HOPA, or the pharmacy profession that produced/culminated in a significant outcome. As a result they will have advanced oncology pharmacy practice, or made positive changes that benefit patients, students, or colleagues in hematology/oncology pharmacy.
The Recognition Committee will review all nominations, compile a summary of all nominations received, and make recommendations to the HOPA Board of Directors. The Recognition Committee reserves the right to recommended that no award be given. The Recognition Committee and HOPA Board of Director members who cannot judge a nomination based on their relationship with the nominee(s) are required to disclose this information and disqualify themselves from the selection process.
Current members of the HOPA Board of Directors or HOPA Recognition Committee are not eligible to nominate an individual for a membership or literature award nor are they eligible to be nominated for a membership or literature award.
