Please note HOPA will use the information provided in conference materials. Please ensure that author names, credentials, and titles, are written accurately; only the degrees and certifications provided will be included in published material. Selected completed research abstracts will be published in a supplement issue of the Journal of Oncology Pharmacy Practice.

Final posters for selected research abstracts are required to be submitted prior to the Annual Conference for viewing of attendees. The deadline for ePosters is set typically one month prior to the Annual Conference. Authorship

Abstract authors do not need to be a HOPA member in order to be considered for a completed poster presentation at the HOPA Annual Conference. However, the presenting author must be a HOPA member and must also be the principal or co-principal investigator of the research in order to be considered for a platform presentation.

Research presented at other professional meetings will be considered for “Encore” presentations. Encore presentations are not eligible for HOPA abstract/poster awards or platform presentation of their work.

Abstracts must be the presenter’s original research. Author or representative must be available to present during poster exhibition sessions and to discuss questions from participants.

All authors should have 1) provided substantial contributions to the conception or design of the project, or acquisition, analysis, or interpretation of data; AND 2) draft the work or critically revise it for intellectual content; AND 3) provide final approval of abstract and poster; AND 4) agree to be accountable for all aspects of work related to accuracy and integrity.

Please provide complete author information (name, credentials, title, facility, and location) and indicate the name of the presenter attending the conference.

Submission Process for Completed Research Abstracts

Selected abstracts will be presented as posters at the Annual Conference. Type the abstract title in "title case," capitalizing the first letter of each word only. Submissions must have a title to be considered for the conference program.

There will be two categories of abstracts including:

  • Clinical/Translational Research
  • Practice Management Research

To facilitate a review of completed research abstracts the topic of your research is also requested.

Topics for Clinical/Translational Research will include:

  • Hematology
  • Bone Marrow Transplantation
  • Medical Oncology
  • Supportive Care
  • Other

Topics for Practice Management Research will include:

  • Distribution of Services
  • Information Technology
  • Med Safety
  • Management
  • Pharmacist Roles

The abstract text should be single-spaced. Do not exceed 400 words for completed research abstracts. Abstracts may be revised at any time up until the submission deadline. References should not be included in the abstract submission. If accepted as a completed poster presentation, references on the poster should be accompanied by the by the full citation, including authors, title, journal name, volume, number, inclusive paging, and year of publication. A confirmation email will be sent upon submission, giving the submitter the password-protected URL for the abstract.

All information entered on the abstract form will appear in print exactly as it is typed. It is recommended that the abstract is typed offline in a word processing document. After spelling and grammatical errors are edited, and the word count is verified, copy and paste the text into the online form.

Review Process

Completed research abstracts undergo an anonymous review by volunteer HOPA members serving on an abstract review work group. The work group is comprised of content experts in the same field of the submitted research whenever feasible. The work group makes final selections based on the results of the initial review. Abstracts that do not fulfill all requirements or are submitted after the posted deadline will not be reviewed. A disclosure of financial interest is required in order for a completed abstract to be peer reviewed.

Responsibility for Expenses

The HOPA Annual Conference gives hematology/oncology pharmacy professionals the opportunity to present their work within an atmosphere of support by peers and national leaders. Presenters must register for at least the day on which they are scheduled to present. Only those presenters (or representatives) committed to attending the conference may submit an abstract. Presenters are responsible for all expenses such as production and shipping of posters, and for personal expenses such as travel, hotel, and meeting registration fees.  (Please Note: HOPA may be moving to an electronic presentation system for Completed Research Presenters in 2018.  More information will be posted upon final decision.)

Avoidance of Commercialism

All presentations must avoid commercialism. Presentations that constitute promotion and advertising (including the use of logos) will not be considered. If the cost of any presentation has been underwritten to any extent, a clear acknowledgment stating the support, identifying the source, and describing the methods for keeping the content unbiased should be included. Advertising matter that in any way promotes the commercial interest of a particular company, enterprise, or the author(s) may not be distributed or displayed. Statements made in the presentation are the sole responsibility of the author and are not viewed as, or considered representative of, any formal position taken on any product, subject, or issued by HOPA.

Notification

Notices of acceptance and declination will be emailed to the address provided within six weeks of the submission deadline.

Call for Trainee Research-in-Progress Poster Abstracts

Trainee Research-in-Progress

Please note HOPA will use the information provided in conference materials. We ask that you ensure all author names, credentials, and titles, are written accurately; only the degrees and certifications provided will be included in published material.

Authorship

A trainee, defined as a student, resident, or fellow, must be the primary author of the abstract being submitted, though the abstract may include non-trainee authors. Selected abstracts will be presented as posters at the HOPA Annual Conference. Abstract submissions can be made by either a HOPA member or non-member. The abstract and research project it describes must be the presenter’s original research; however, encore presentations from previous meetings are acceptable to be presented as a poster at the Annual Conference.

Review Process

All trainee research-in-progress submissions that meet all requirements will be accepted for participation at the 2017 HOPA Annual Conference. Trainee Research in Progress that is submitted in electronic poster form for consideration for the annual award (see HOPA Trainee Research Award) is reviewed by volunteer HOPA members serving on an abstract review work group. HOPA Trainee Research Award

HOPA identifies the best trainee poster for an annual award. To be considered for the award, the presenter must be a HOPA member, must be a trainee, and must submit an electronic poster (PDF) by the pre-specified deadline prior to the HOPA meeting to allow for review. Electronic posters will be due approximately 4 weeks prior to the meeting to allow time for off-site review. Further details and information will be communicated with the trainee regarding the electronic poster process upon initial submission of their title and objectives.
