Susannah E. Koontz, Pharm.D., BCOP is Principal at Koontz Oncology Consulting LLC in Houston, TX. She is a consultant for clinical pharmacy services, clinical research and educational programs in the areas of pediatric hematology/oncology, and stem cell transplantation and cellular therapy.

Dr. Koontz earned her Doctor of Pharmacy degree from the University of Michigan in 1996, and completed both her Pharmacy Practice Residency (PGY1) and Oncology Pharmacy Residency (PGY2) at the University of Kentucky Chandler Medical Center in 1997 and 1998, respectively. She has been a Board Certified Oncology Pharmacist (BCOP) since 1999.

Prior to being elected to HOPA’s Board of Directors, Dr. Koontz had been involved with the Education Committee for several years, most recently serving as the 2010-2011 Chair, and the inaugural Run-Walk Task Force.

What drew me to oncology?

Initially, I was drawn to the field of oncology during my schooling at Michigan when both my parents were diagnosed with cancer. Since then, my passion for the field has continued to grow knowing the impact I can have on the care of patients. Just as no two patients are the same, no two days are the same in an oncology pharmacy practice.
