The HOPA Health Policy and Advocacy committee is dedicated to acting as an advocate on behalf of patients as well as representing hematology/oncology pharmacists across the country in legislative and regulatory endeavours.

On April 27, 2016 members of the HOPA Board of Directors and Health Policy Committee participated in the "annual Hill visit." To prepare for the Hill visit, participants attended an advocacy training on Tuesday evening where they were briefed on the current political climate and discussed the specific “asks” that each individual would be taking to their Members of Congress which included:
The participants visited more than 30 offices and were able to gain additional cosponsors for our “asks.” Many staffers requested follow-up information and HOPA continues to follow up with those offices and build support for our issues.
Vice President Joe Biden was placed in charge of the White House’s National Cancer Moonshot Initiative to accelerate cancer research efforts and break down barriers to progress by promoting data sharing and facilitating collaborations to advance cancer prevention, treatment, and care. HOPA is engaged on this initiative and has reached out to Vice President Biden’s office and continues to work to ensure that pharmacy is represented throughout this initiative.
